Kathmandu District is a district of  Bagmati  Zone, administrative headquarters of this district is Kathmandu, located  in Central Development Region of Nepal. It is situated in the height of 1372 meters to 2732 meters from sea level and its area is 395 square kilometers. Total population of Kathmandu district is 1,744,240 according to census 2068 B.S. (2011 A.D.). Main profession of the residents in this district are business, trade, jobs and agriculture. Its agricultural land is 12765 hectare there are 48 village development committees that   are Chhaimale, Dakshinkali, Talkudundechaur, Saukhel, Sheshnarayan, Chhalnakhel, Machhegaon, Matatirtha, Mahadevsthan, Satunggal, Balambu, Thankot, Bandbhanjyang, dahachok, Bhimdhunga, Ramkot, Syuchatar, Tinthana, Naikap, Sitapaila, Ichangunarayan, Goldhunga, Jitpurphedi, Dharmasthali, Kavresthali, Sangla, Jhormahakal, Budhanilakantha, Tokha chandeshori, tokha saraswati, Phutung, Manamaiju, Gongabu, Dhapasi, Khadka bhadrakali, Mahakal, Chapali Bhadrakali, Chunikhel, Kapan, Baluwa, Sundarijal, Jorpati, Gokarneshor, Gothatar, Mulpani, Nayapati, Thalidanchi, Bhadrabas, Alapot, Gagalphedi, Indrayani, Sankhu Bajrayogini, Lapsifedi, Nanglebhare, Sankhu suntole, Pukhulachhi. There is a Kirtipur Municipality and a Kathmandu Metropolitan. This district is popular for its historical importance. Main residents of this district are Newar, Bramhin, Chhetri, Tamang, Magar etc. it is a main touristic place and only Nepal international airport also is in here.
